Continue readingThe Green Innovation & Agritech Slam 2019 competition (hereinafter the “Competition”) is designed to encourage and support innovation in the agricultural sector. The GIAS is a nationwide agricultural business competition that aims to find innovative solutions to critical challenges of the agricultural sector.
Selected winners will be awarded a monetary prize and will be supported in achieving business growth.
The organisers reserve the right to publish details of the entrants, shortlisted candidates, finalists and/or winners of the competition on their website and in other promotional and publicity material as it considers appropriate. By entering, entrants agree that they will be willing and available to participate in publicity and promotional activities and events and/or press conferences and that the organisers shall be entitled to use entrants’ names, photographs and other relevant information in publicity throughout all media, free of charge.
Competition is free and open to individuals, teams or companies of young people in Ethiopia with an innovative idea or product that can be used in the agricultural sector to solve real problems.

By entering the competition, the participants agree to the regulations of the Green Innovation & Agritech Slam 2019 Competition.
The competition categories of this year’s Green Innovation & Agritech Slam 2019 are as follows:
We are looking for businesses that want to enter the market with new/ improved products or innovations in the food processing sector that aim at food security or healthy eating
Does your business idea address challenges in the agri-input systems or proposes innovative products to increase productivity, ease maintenance or substitute imports?
Apply here, if you have an innovative idea on how to protect the environment or promote sustainability in the selected value chains
We are looking for early stage digital solutions that can solve agricultural problems and support agricultural sector. However, you must have an existing prototype
Do you run a post-revenue digital business focusing on agriculture? Your solution must be already generating revenues, even if it is not yet profitable.
The participants can submit their entries in one the official competition languages: English, Amharic, Afaan Oromo.
Compliance of submitted projects with these criteria will be verified as far as possible prior to presentation to the jury.
The competition organisers cannot be held responsible for late submissions due to network problems.
The 10 winners will share a total amount of 1,000,000 ETB. The winners also get professional business development support, exposure visits, showcasing their products to potential clients and market linkage opportunities
The Jury may, at its discretion, give honourable mentions and split the prizes. In any event, the awards will be distributed fully with a defined schedule.
Prizes shall only be awarded in the form prescribed here and their use will be supervised by the organisers. They are non-transferable and non-exchangeable.
An award may be subject to withholding tax (if applicable) and/or income tax or other applicable tax which shall be payable by the winner, as applicable. The organisers shall not be liable for any taxes which are or become payable on the Award.
An Award may be revoked and a refund required if the submission infringes the intellectual property rights of a third party.
The shortlisted Entrants will be informed within one week after submission deadline by iceaddis.
The public announcement of the winners will be made at the grand award ceremony in November 14, 2019. Details of the awards ceremony will be published in due course on the competition website.
The competition Organisers will consider the submitted projects with the utmost care.
The Organisers will not answer any questions about the participants or their entries nor about the identity of the competition winners before the results have been officially published.
All personal information will be treated as confidential.
The Organisers shall not be liable if the competition mentioned herein is delayed, curtailed, altered or cancelled due to force majeure.
Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of the rules herein and the participant’s full and unmitigated agreement with the results without recourse.
Winning participants shall retain their inalienable intellectual property right. The publication rights in section 10.1 shall not be affected. With their submission, they declare themselves to be the sole creators of their project and that they hold all the rights pertaining to their ideas, and have also made appropriate provision for the rights of any third parties.
The Organisers shall not be liable for damage that might be caused by the competition entries, nor for possible violations of the rights of third parties.
The participants are responsible in its full extent for the integrity of stated information.
Any arising issues regarding the application and/or interpretation of the regulations herein shall be settled irrevocably with the Organisers.
In the event of an irresolvable disagreement regarding the application or interpretation of the rules herein and in the absence of an amicable settlement, the dispute shall fall under the jurisdiction of the responsible administrative courts. Any dispute with regard to the competition set forth herein is to be lodged within the legal time limit.
